
Hyperbaric Safety Advisor (HSA)
About the traineeship
In accordance with Article R. 4461‑27 of Decree No. 2011‑45 of 11 January 2011 on the protection of workers in hyperbaric environments, Hyperbaric Safety Advisors must have completed specific training.
To meet regulatory requirements for companies, and in the absence of conditions defined by current regulations, UNDER THE POLE offers a specialized training program for individuals wishing to serve as a Hyperbaric Safety Advisor.
Objective
This training is intended for hyperbaric workers aiming to fulfill the role of Hyperbaric Safety Advisor in the field of underwater interventions, “Mention B” (covering all operations defined in Article 2 of the decree of 14 May 2019, which specifies procedures for access, work, exit, and organization for hyperbaric interventions involving immersion in the context of Mention B, including technical, scientific, fishing, aquaculture, media, and other interventions).
The course will enable participants to understand current regulations and contribute to their application within the company.
Participants will benefit from training that contributes to:
- Evaluating professional risks within the company
- Implementing measures to ensure the health and safety of workers in hyperbaric environments
- Continuous improvement of risk prevention through analysis of work situations
General Schedule
Day 1:
- Overview of the hyperbaric regulatory framework in France
- Review and design of a DUER (documented risk assessment) with associated job descriptions
- Application and drafting of a Hyperbaric Safety Manual
- Updates and information on best practices
- Management of personal and collective protective equipment in professional diving
- Human and technical organization for normal, technically degraded, accident, and rescue situations
Day 2 (with CESIM Santé – Prof. Erwan L’HER, Head of ICU at CHU Cavale Blanche and Director of CESIM Santé):
- Training on error management in diving
- Practice for handling injured divers in constrained or mobile environments
- Use and deployment of biomedical tools in acute care situations, hoisting preparation, and aircraft transport
- Management of human resources during crises
- Maintenance and/or development of specific skills through analysis of professional practices
Day 3 (morning with DAN USA – Emmanuel DUGRENOT, hyperbaric physiologist):
Morning:
- Overview of diving accidentology in open‑circuit and rebreather diving
- Management and organization of deep dives with rebreathers in professional work contexts
- Planning and management of rebreather or deep diving operations
Afternoon:
- Discussion and customization of prevention measures and continuous improvement solutions for your company
Audience
- Any professional diver holding a CAH endorsement B
Candidate Requirements for UNDER THE POLE Course
- Fluency in the language of instruction (spoken and written)
- Possession of a current CAH for the relevant endorsement
Reminder: Hyperbaric fitness certificates are valid for 5 years.

The Hyperbaric Safety Advisor course lasts three days
Course information
Training begins on the date and time indicated on your invitation (sent by email prior to the start of the course).
Subsequent days start at 9:00 a.m. and finish at 6:00 p.m.
The lunch break takes place between 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m., and lunch is included in the training in Concarneau.
Withdrawal and interruptions of training
All withdrawals or interruptions of training will lead to the application of article 3 of the conventions or contracts of professional training delivered at the time of the acceptance of your file.
Failure of the training
If you fail the practical and/or theoretical evaluations, a make‑up evaluation is organized. If you fail again, we will offer to reschedule a complete training session.
Teaching and evaluation methods
When you enter the program, you will be given a digital educational file. This will contain all the educational documents concerning your course.
In order to carry out the trainings, we have :
- 3 classrooms within the "Explore" base
- 1 classroom in our expedition schooner "WHY"
- 1 expedition schooner of 20 meters with a capacity of 12 divers.
- 1 semi rigid of 6,60 meters, with a capacity of 9 divers.
For practical situations, our technical platform has :
- The Glenan archipelago and the bay of Concarneau
- the bay of Douarnenez
- the bay of Brest
- of the Bay of Camaret and the Iroise Sea
- of our expedition locations (in compliance with regulatory requirements)
