The WHY expedition boat is a sturdy aluminum schooner, designed to navigate in every sea, in tropics, in polar regions and even to winter when caught in the pack ice.
A real traveling base camp, the WHY boat can accommodate 12 crew members divided into 5 cabins and carry several tons of equipment dedicated to underwater and land exploration, implementation of scientific programs as well as videos and reports creation. The boat is equipped fas a sailing and diving training boat of A category.
Sailing oceanographic boat, The WHY NOT is an advanced research platform, spectially designed to allow exploration of the mesophotic zone from 30 to 200 m, in every ocean and season. Equipped with two fast boats, a marine biology laboratory and a decompression chamber, it is the operational hub of the UNDER THE POLE expeditions.
NEW BOAT FOR OPTIMAL RESEARCH CONDITIONS
10 years of UNDER THE POLE expeditions have allowed us to identify the limits of the WHY (the vessel of previous expeditions) and to imagine solutions that meet the needs of research conducted from repetitive deep dives. These observations led to a set of specifications on which the Verdier-Beaufort firm based its design of the WHY NOT. The vessel thus integrates in situ experimentation with a marine biology laboratory, a solid operational capacity in deep diving, adapted workspaces and a maximum level of safety.
