The UNDER THE POLE is an underwater exploration program founded in 2008 by Emmanuelle PÉRIÉ-BARDOUT and Ghislain BARDOUT, combining scientific research, innovation and awareness for the oceans knowledge and preservation.
Driven by a pioneering spirit and internationally recognized for its expertise, UNDER THE POLE organizes innovative diving expeditions in extreme deep and polar environments.
UNDER THE POLE has a global program management approach (definition, organization, means, progress and promotion) within its long missions. The ambitious scientific collaboration with internationally renowned research institutes aims to carry out innovative and promising studies for the mankind, planet and oceans presenrvation.
If ocean deep diving was yesterday's challenge, today the stake of underwater exploration is different aiming the ability to remain in immersion for a long time and discover and understand the oceans and its life. This is the innovative and pionier vision that actually guides UNDER THE POLE.
Thanks to its expeditions experience, deep scientific diving difficult to access areas, and the desire to put ocean exploration at the service of the common good, in 2021 the UNDER THE POLE launches the DEEPLIFE research program dedicated to the oceans mesophotic zone of 200 m depth exploration, scientific knowledge and preservation.
Inspiré du modèle de collaboration fructueux mené par UNDER THE POLE – CNRS – CRIOBE autour du programme d’étude des coraux profonds DEEPHOPE en 2018-2019, DEEPLIFE met en oeuvre des moyens de plongée de pointe, parmi lesquels des habitats sous-marins CAPSULE, opérés depuis un voilier océanographique – le WHY NOT – spécialement conçu pour la plongée scientifique. Les premières campagnes scientifiques ont démarré en 2022.
The research programs and its geographical areas will be defined by the UNDER THE POLE and the scientific consortium made up of international researchers.
Thanks to our exploration, the intensity of our fieldwork, the family caracter of the UNDER THE POLE expeditions, the scientific partnerships sealed with international research institutes (French National Centre for Scientific Research, Island Research Center and Environmental Observatory, Museum of Tropical Queensland, California Academy of Sciences…) a lot of media levers and the international visibility have been given to UNDER THE POLE since many years.
