Deepsea UNDER THE POLE by Rolex is an underwater polar expedition on the Arctic pack ice near the Geographic North Pole, from March 26 to May 10, 2010.
Its aim is to produce a presentative and exhaustive photographic and cinematographic testimony-report on the underwater world of pack ice.
Along with the exploration work, two scientific programs were launched: the first focused on the snow depth on the ice, a crucial parameter for estimating the volume of ice, and the second on human physiology through sleep studies and crew members internal temperature changes.
After 3 years of preparation and several training phases in Finland and in the Alps, having passed through the extreme northern Canada, 8 crew members and a Husky dog leaded by Ghislain Bardout arrived into the polar night 65 km from the pole. They skied pulling sleds and carried out 51 dives in 45 days. Although tiring for both equipment and people and cut short, the project achieved its objectives.
The photos of the place and of the back of pack ice reveal a dream world in distress due to the global warming.
